Welcome to Durham Key Options, East Durham Homes lettings service. Durham Key Options allocates the District of Easington's homes and some of our partner housing association properties for rent.
Durham Key Options is a more open and transparent system that will give you more choice in deciding where you want to live. Properties that are available to rent will be advertised every week and you will be able choose which property/ies you wish to be considered for – this is called “Bidding for a property”. Do not worry about the terms "bid" and "bidding", you won't be parting with money or be asked to take part in an auction. All these terms mean you are advising us you wish to be considered for a property.
The bidding cycle will open every Thursday morning and will run until the following Tuesday (one minute to midnight on the Tuesday evening), allowing you to bid for properties within this time period. You cannot make a bid on a Wednesday.
You may only bid for a property if you're application has been accepted and is Active on our housing register.
Before you place your bid you should ensure you are eligible for that property. You can check what properties you are eligible for by going to the page "How to use this service" and then the page "Registration" on this web site. If you bid for a property you are not eligible for you will not be considered for it.
DURHAM KEY OPTIONS IS CHANGING (please read the important information below)
Every applicant on our housing registered should have received a new Durham Key Options application form. If you have not returned this form you will not be on our housing register (and therefore will not be able to bid) when the sub regional scheme choice based lettings scheme goes live in October 2009. YOU MUST THEREFORE RETURN THIS FORM BY THE END OF JULY.
If you or someone you know receives new Durham Key Options application form and would like some help to complete it please contact the Choice Based Lettings team (contact details can be found on the Contact Us page of this website).
East Durham Homes will continue to operate our choice based lettings scheme in the same way until the countywide scheme begins. You can will still be able to "bid" for a new home in the usual way.
Do you need help to use Durham Key Options?
If you or someone you know has difficulty using Durham Key Options and are on East Durham Homes' housing register then we can help. Jayne Adamson, our Vulnerable Applicant Support Officer will assist anyone who finds it difficult to place bids. You can contact her on jayne.adamson@eastdurhamhomes.co.uk or telephone 0191 5185497. If you are not on East Durham Homes' register please contact the landlord who's housing register you are on.
